Renovation | Adaptive Reuse
The new Middletown Public Library at 110 Enterprise Center in Middletown, Rhode Island will serve as a dynamic civic resource, creating new opportunities for learning, creativity, and community connection. The facility will provide expanded space for adult and children’s collections and programming, along with an innovation center for hands-on learning and making, a bookstore, and a dedicated teen room. An increased number of study rooms, meeting spaces, and flexible after-hours areas will support a wide range of uses, enabling the library to accommodate both individual study and group gatherings throughout the day.
The project transforms a 30,000-square-foot former corporate office building into a welcoming municipal library. This adaptive reuse approach leverages the existing building’s embodied energy while thoughtfully reimagining the facility for public use, reflecting a fiscally responsible and environmentally sustainable investment in the community.
Designed with sustainability, accessibility, and safety as guiding principles, the new library will feature clear wayfinding, strong sightlines, and a variety of comfortable spaces for reading, studying, and gathering. Warm materials, vibrant colors, and carefully considered details will lend each area a distinct identity and sense of belonging. Upon completion, the Middletown Public Library will stand as a vibrant community hub—an inclusive place where residents of all ages can learn, create, and connect.
