Located in Boston’s burgeoning Seaport District, Corossol Wines is a family-owned and operated store featuring fine wines, beer and spirits. In 2021, the Skerry family hired OEA to design the store with the key challenge to accommodate Corossol’s operations, including its full inventory of 5,000 bottles of wine, within a tight 1,135 square foot, ground-level retail space at Ora, a new 304-unit apartment and 297-unit hotel complex in the Seaport’s east end. Adding to the challenge was the store’s trapezoidal shape and its location within a flood zone.

Limited space meant that most of the store’s inventory would need to be stored on display. The result was to install a metal shelving system against floor-to-ceiling exterior windows creating an engaging texture on the outside while allowing most of Corossol’s inventory to exist without feeling cramped or overwhelming. A track ladder encircles the shelving, allowing access to higher shelves while elevating the space into a library of wine. The shelving system, supplied by Rakks, was customized to address the family’s specific collection needs, as well as the complex geometries of the space, including a fifteen-foot vertical span between anchor points. Concealing back-of-house spaces and acting as a counterpoint to the wine shelving and full height glass, OEA introduced a custom walnut transaction counter and full-height rounded wall surfaces, parts of which are painted a saturated blue color and other parts of which are intended to support future wall graphics.
