Historic Renovation

In the fall of 2024, OEA was hired by the City of Boston's Property Management Department to perform a comprehensive facilities condition assessment of the historic, three-story, 20,000 square foot Nazzaro Community Center. Completed in January, 2025, the conditions assessment served as a precursor to a building renovation project, which is ongoing an currently in the construction documents phase. Bidding is slated to occur in September with construction completion by the end of 2026.

The renovation project is includes comprehensive exterior facade rehabilitation, hazardous materials abatement, installation of a new on-site stormwater management system, full mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems replacement, a new automatic sprinkler system for the entire building, required code/life safety and accessibilies upgrades and renovations of the Senior Center, including a new central communal kitchen, staff office upgrades, public restroom upgrades and finish and lighting improvements within the Senior Center's two multi-purpose activity/recreation rooms.

OEA's ongoing work with the city has included various meetings with the building's various user groups, as well as with the City's Disabilities Commission, Landmarks Commission, Board of Health, Boston Water and Sewer, Boston Inspectional Services Department and the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board.
